Welcome to Student Age Care
Dear Parents and Students:
Welcome to St. Paul’s Lutheran School Association and After School Age Care. Our purpose is to provide a childcare service for our working parents. It is our privilege to play a part in helping you provide your child a Christian place to stay. We will keep your child safe, learn social skills, and use God’s Word when needed.
This handbook serves as a way to let families know how our Student Age Care program operates. Within it you will find much valuable information. Please become familiar with it. There is a page to sign at the end of the handbook indicating that you have read the handbook.
During your child's stay at our school it is our hope that they will grow socially, enjoy the atmosphere, and feel safe. If the staff can be of any assistance to you and your family please let us know.
God’s blessings,
Tina Heisterberg Sutherland
Principal

Signing Out
Parents (or designated person) must personally sign their child out of the SAC program.
The Office/SAC worker will have the sign-out procedure for you when you pick up your child. SAC workers may ask for photo identification until they get to know you.
Pick-Up Procedures
Pick-up will be from the Massachusetts Street doors, as students will be either in the cafeteria or on the playground.
Do not buzz in the gym doors or try to pick up from the playground gate. SAC workers are trained not to acknowledge this.
- Before 4:00 p.m. — Generally, you will buzz in the front doors, report to the office, and ask to have your child called from the playground.
- After 4:00 p.m. — Buzz in the front doors and walk down the steps to the cafeteria to check out your child.
If any of these procedures change, the Principal will let you know through our REMIND texting system.
Designated Pick-Up Persons
If it is necessary to have someone other than those listed on your Emergency Sheet pick up your child, you must notify the office ahead of time or get in touch with the SAC worker.
Otherwise, this person will not be allowed to take your child. We want to ensure safety!
Children going home with other children will need a signed note from the parent/guardian or a notification to the school office to give to the SAC worker with that specific information.
Payment Policy
Payments should be made to the office or through FACTS. Accommodations may be made with the office for any extenuating circumstances.
Parents may receive a SAC statement of expenses from St. Paul’s to be used for tax purposes if they request it in a timely manner.
Requests should be made to the church/school secretary.
Snacks
No snacks will be provided.
Medication
If a child is to receive medication during SAC, the parent must provide the SAC worker with the completed, signed Medication Authorization form.
This form may be obtained from the office.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6
Health and Safety
If your child has a medical condition, please be sure to notify the SAC worker if a needed medical attention situation is needed.
If a child has any of the following conditions, parents will be notified to pick up the child immediately:
- Contagious disease
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- An accident requiring medical attention
We will notify you if your child is distraught and wants parental support.
Soap and water will be used to clean superficial wounds, and a band aid will be applied for protection. Ice may be used in some situations.
No other medicines will be administered or used without parental authority. This includes Tylenol or aspirin.
All “boo-boos” will be documented.
Be sure your child has proper clothing for outside play in appropriate weather and appropriate playground footwear. The school dress code applies for SAC as explained in the school handbook.
Personal Property
All students are to respect each other’s property.
We do not encourage them to bring toys or expensive items such as handheld games. However, if those items are brought from home, they are to be labeled with a name.
The school or SAC will not assume responsibility for missing or broken toys or games.
Children’s Conduct
Parents have the right to expect that their child will have proper supervision. The child who constantly needs the attention of the staff because of inappropriate behavior is taking away the rights of the others and not allowing for the needs of all the children to be met.
We as a staff have the following expectations of your children:
- Remain in designated areas. Children must remain in the designated SAC areas and ask permission to take bathroom breaks that may take them out of the area.
- Respect others. Children are to respect the rights and property of others.
- Be courteous and cooperative. Children are to act courteously and appropriately, be cooperative, respectful, and follow the instructions of the SAC workers.
- Follow school rules. School building and playground rules, as discussed by the classroom teacher, must be followed during SAC.
- Use appropriate language. Appropriate and acceptable language is required.
- Take responsibility. Children are responsible for their actions.
- Care for materials and equipment. Materials and equipment are to be treated properly and returned to their place when done.
Discipline
SAC workers will handle discipline in a positive manner that promotes the physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of each child.
Most infractions will be handled in a time-out situation for students as prescribed by the SAC workers. SAC workers will assist the students in discussing problems and promoting forgiving relationships with peers.
Repeated discipline problems, physical abuse to other students, and disrespect to SAC workers shall be reported to parents and administration.
Repeated offenses may be a cause for dismissal of the child from the SAC program.
Disruptive Behavior
Disruptive behavior will be dealt with in the following manner:
- An incident report will be given to and discussed with the parent and documented.
- Serious misbehavior may result in immediate suspension from SAC.
- The administration will determine the conditions for reinstatement to the program.
Dismissal from the SAC Program
A child may be dismissed from the SAC program for:
- Chronic disregard for the 5:30 p.m. closing time, unless arrangements have been made with the SAC worker.
- Continuing neglect of not signing a child out of the program.
- Not following the behavior recommendations stated in our discipline policy, including respecting the decisions and directions of our SAC workers.
- Intentionally physically harming another child or staff worker.
Matthew 18:1–4
At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

All parents using the Student Age Care program are asked to review the SAC Handbook and sign the Acknowledgment of SAC Policies form.
Please download and print the SAC Handbook, sign the acknowledgment form on the final page, and return the completed form to the school during the first week of school.
